Shihan Upali Mendis began his martial arts journey in 1986 when he joined the local Shotokan Karate club., but soon was introduced to the world of full contact karate where he found his niche within the industry. Shihan Upali understands where the true benefits (Ultimate Truth) of martial arts lay. Training hard and forging an indominable spirit, both in character and life is the ultimate goal.
Shihan Upali is highly respected within the whole Asia martial arts community and is known for his hard training style but is also endeared for his warm heart and peaceful manner with all who know him.
Shihan Upali is one of the only people in the world to complete a 3 baseball bat break using his shin, a feat that sends shivers up the spine with most martial arts practitioners, he has his sights set on a four baseball bat break in the near future.
Shihan Upali is a humble person who is first and foremost interested in the success of his students and is committed to training champions both on and off the mat.
Shihan Upali Mendis was selected as Regional Director for the International Sabaki Karate-do Organisation TESHINKAI for good reason. He is a totally committed individual who believes that the world can be positively changed when we instill purpose and structure within peoples lives. Shihan Upali Mendis is responsible for the expansion of the style throughout the region and is always looking for new branch chiefs to share in his dream of creating the worlds largest Budo Karate Organisations.
