IntroductionI first began my journey with Martial Arts in 1991 with The Te Shin Kai Karate Do organisation under Shihan Barry Johnston’s expert instruction. After my first lesson I knew that I had found the path in which I would follow, also that I would be involved in Martial Arts for the rest of my life. I had the honour of assisting with the training of secondary school students in the ACSD Skills for Life program which I believe is as an integral part of students development and is also considered this way by schools particularly for at risk students. Martial Arts has personally given me physical conditioning, self-control, more energy, better concentration, weight control, inner peace, honour, a great mental attitude, perseverance and humility. Teaching is very rewarding to me as I believe in the students and I also enjoy watching the continual improvement of my students, I love helping people achieve their goals. The smile on their face when the penny drops after I help them work out something that they have been struggling with is very rewarding to me. I have a strong passion for the Martial Arts and I am very proud and appreciative that I have been able to train with my own children for many years. Which has encouraged them to lead better lives through the key values of the Martial Arts, setting good role models for others.
