William Lam

William Lam's lifelong journey into the world of martial arts has been a testament to his passion for both learning and teaching. His dedication traces back to 1982 when the Melbourne Chinese Masonic Society invited Sifu Deng Chi Tang, a third generation Jow Ga Kung Fu and Hung Ga master from China to come teach in Australia. From this point, at the age of 9, he became a formal disciple of Sifu Deng and embarked on his journey in Jow Ga Kung Fu and would lead him through a diverse array of martial disciplines over the years.

Venturing beyond Jow Ga and Hung Ga Kung Fu, Sifu Lam delved into other of martial arts, embracing the techniques of Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun, Karate and Tai Chi, and Muay Thai. His pursuit was not merely about mastering diverse styles but understanding the holistic essence of each discipline.

William's connection with Jow Ga Kung Fu lead him to continue further training with Sifu Tseng Gong Seng, a third generation Jow Ga master from Vietnam based in Melbourne. During which he taught the style with the Melbourne Jow Ga Kuen Association and received the Outstanding Instructor Award in 2016.

Further Jow Ga Kung Fu training followed under Sifu Febie Cheng, another third generation Jow Ga master from Hong Kong. William has continued honing his abilities and embracing new dimensions of learning.

William has gained a vast knowledge of hand forms, techniques and traditional weapons. Finding there is continual growth between martial arts and personal growth, fostering not just physical prowess but a holistic and enriched life. In 2023, he was awarded a 7th Duan rank.

Dedicated to promoting and spreading Jow Ga Kung Fu, William dedicates his time, sharing his wealth of knowledge through teaching the art with the Chinese Masonic Society Lion Dance Team.
