Introduction

Geordie, a devoted full-time instructor and the visionary founder of Black Dragon Kai, a renowned martial arts organization with branches spanning Queensland. His unwavering passion for empowering individuals has led to the successful establishment of two full-time training centers in Beaudesert and Jimboomba. Geordie's expertise stems from his comprehensive education at the International College of Martial Arts, where he completed courses in Sport and Recreation, Fitness, Workplace Assessment, and Training. His qualifications include a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Sports Coaching, specializing in martial arts.


A true community champion, Geordie actively collaborates with local councils and schools to promote self-defense techniques. He has served as a sports curriculum instructor at esteemed educational institutions such as Beaudesert State High School, The Kooralbyn International School, Emmaus College, and McAuley College. In 2002, Geordie received the Australia Day Award for Senior Sports Person in the Beaudesert Shire in recognition of his outstanding contributions.


Currently, Geordie serves as an Australian Defence Force Contractor, sharing his extensive knowledge of Close Quarter Combatives and Tactics at the Australian Army Combative Centre within the 7th Brigade Gallipoli Barracks. Impressively, he is the only civilian qualified in the Army Combatives Program Levels 1, 2, and 3, in addition to being an Instructor and Combative Master Trainer. Geordie also collaborates with Kinetic Fighting, working alongside renowned martial artist Paul Cale to deliver high-quality courses.


In addition to his martial arts achievements, Geordie has made substantial contributions to the sport of wrestling. He currently holds the position of General Director on the board for Wrestling Australia, serving his second term. Previously, he served as the National Female Coordinator and National Head Coach for Women's Wrestling. Geordie's expertise also led him to work as a National Technical Official for Wrestling at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast.


Alongside his wife, Jessica Lavers-McBain, Geordie actively supports the growth and development of female wrestling in Australia through their organization, Girls Into Wrestling. They organize and oversee competitions and camps to provide opportunities for aspiring female wrestlers. Since 2013, Geordie has played a pivotal role as the Co-director and Event Coordinator for the Queensland Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Circuit, hosting over 20 BJJ competitions throughout the state each year. The QBJJC operates as the State Organization under the National Federation AFBJJ and the international federation, IBJJF.


Throughout his martial arts journey, Geordie has amassed a wealth of experience in various styles, beginning his training at the age of eight. Currently, he holds an impressive 27 Black Belts and possesses multiple Instructor Qualifications in systems that do not utilize a belt ranking system.
