Introduction
Jason Nichols, a 6th Dan Black Belt in Shukokai Karate, is the Chief Instructor and driving force behind Sakura Karate, a full-time, professional school that he established in 2010. With a lifelong dedication to the martial arts, Sensei Jason has been training in Karate since 1984 and has been graded by the renowned Shihan Tommy Morris, President of Kobe Osaka International, since 1987. His expertise extends beyond Karate, with formal training in the traditional martial art of Jiu-Jitsu, further broadening his martial arts foundation.
Sensei Jason's dedication to excellence in both teaching and competition is evident through his many qualifications. He holds a Level 2 Silver NCAS Coaching Accreditation, Senior First Aid Certification, and a Working With Children Accreditation, ensuring a safe and high-quality training environment for all of his students. In addition to his role as an instructor, Sensei Jason has held key positions within the Karate community, including serving as the former Karate Victoria State Kata Coach. His commitment to the sport continues through his current role as Secretary of the Victorian Referee Commission, where he helps to shape the standards of competition.
As an internationally recognized referee and judge, Sensei Jason holds Oceania (OKF) accreditation in both Kumite and Kata for Karate Australia. His expertise in these areas, combined with his years of competitive experience, make him a respected authority within the martial arts world.
Sensei Jason’s competitive career has been equally distinguished. He has traveled extensively, representing his dojo and country in four Kobe Osaka World Cups. His achievements include placing 4th in Manila in 2004, 3rd in Bulgaria in 2007, and 2nd in Malaysia in 2009, all in Men’s Kata competitions. He was also a member of the Victorian Karate Team in 2003, further highlighting his status as an accomplished athlete and competitor.

Known for its emphasis on speed, power, accuracy, and focus, Shukokai Karate has become synonymous with excellence at Sakura.
