Introduction
**Kancho Peter Mylonas** is one of the world's foremost Karate instructors and arguably Australia’s busiest martial artist. He holds an 8th Dan, Kancho, and Renshi titles, awarded by prominent Karate figures including Soeno Yoshiji, Sosui of Shidokan, John Taylor, Hanshi of IKO Matsushima, and his original teacher Bob Wright, Hanshi of Black Dragon Kempo. His recognition extends to being acknowledged by Martial Arts Australia and the International Martial Arts Coaching Council, endorsed by 15 leaders in the Australian martial arts community.
Notably one of the youngest to receive such honors from multiple style representatives, Kancho Mylonas is revered for his commitment to Budo. He teaches at the So-Hombu Dojo (international headquarters) in Sydney and oversees the Kempo Ryu organization alongside his dedicated Black Belts. He has built Kempo Genbu Ryu into one of Australia’s most respected Karate organizations, now extending its reputation globally, particularly in Japan.
As a sought-after tournament referee and instructor, Kancho Mylonas is known as Australia’s leading referee, frequently invited to officiate at both full contact and non-contact events. His experience as an Australian Karate Champion in the late 80s fuels his passion for developing strong athletes and referees for the future. As the President of AMAC, he emphasizes the true purpose of tournaments: to nurture students into martial arts athletes.
His busy schedule sees him frequently traveling to Japan, where he represents Kempo Genbu Ryu and AMAC, participating in various events and teaching in the birthplace of Karate. He has established the Japanese Martial Arts Championships (JMAC) and leads a team to compete in Japan at least twice a year.
In addition to AMAC, Kancho Mylonas created the Sydney Junior Games, Australia’s largest ‘Kids Only’ event aimed at under-18 participants to foster their development. He also hosts the All-Australia Karate Championships for adult martial artists.
Kancho began his Karate training in Bob Wright's Kempo Dojo in Sydney in October 1978, earning his Black Belt in June 1984 through a rigorous grading process. After a brief separation from his teacher, he traveled to Japan to further develop the Kempo Genbu Ryu organization, reuniting with Sensei Wright in 2004.
Kancho has consistently excelled in competitions, achieving numerous first-place awards in Kumite, Kata, and Self Defense.
Kancho Mylonas aims to continue teaching Kempo Genbu Ryu, spreading the ‘Spirit of Osu’ (the Karate Spirit) and focusing on the Budo lifestyle. He plans to work closely with his Black Belts, whom he considers family, to enhance lives through the principles of Budo. Additionally, he aspires to establish the WMAC organization in various countries, promoting the unity of competition and the Martial Way while showcasing the positive impact of martial arts on individuals and society.
