Introduction

Sudath Rohan DeSilva, a seasoned martial artist, is the Branch Chief for Sri Lanka under the International Sabaki Karate Do Teshinkai.  Sudath is a 5th Dan Black Belt in the Organisation and is bestowed the title of Shihan. Born in 1982 in Sri Lanka, Sudath has dedicated his life to martial arts since 1992. His extensive career includes significant contributions to both his country and the international martial arts community.

Sudath's martial arts journey began in his youth, quickly advancing through the ranks to become a highly respected practitioner. His expertise and dedication led him to serve as a self-defense combat instructor for the Sri Lanka Army, where he also trained the peacekeeping team. His role in the military underscored his commitment to using martial arts as a means of protection and discipline.

In his international endeavors, Sudath made history as the first Sri Lankan representative of the World Oyama Karate Organization in the United States. He played a pivotal role in introducing and establishing the organization in South Asia. However, after experiencing financial and organizational challenges, he chose to part ways with the World Oyama Karate Organization.

In 2013, Sudath's pursuit of excellence took him to Osaka, Japan, where he trained in Uchideshi Karate under the tutelage of Masaki Kawachi, a former hard-hitting karate champion of the Seidokaikan Karate Organization. This intensive training further honed his skills and deepened his understanding of martial arts.

Sudath also joined the IKO Sonoda team, serving as the Sri Lankan representative. Despite his dedication, he found difficulties in aligning with the expectations and understanding of various international organizations, leading to his departure from them. His experiences have shaped his perspective on the global martial arts community and its relationship with South Asia.

Sudath's journey reflects his resilience and unwavering commitment to martial arts. He continues to seek opportunities to elevate and integrate martial arts within Sri Lanka, aspiring to bring the highest standards of training and discipline to his homeland. Through his efforts, Sudath aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of martial arts in South Asia, ensuring its growth and development for future generations.
