Introduction

Doug Turnbull is a 7th dan black belt in Kyokushinkai Karate (KIKO) and 5th Dan Black Belt in Okinawa Koburyu Kobudo (weapons) Shihan Doug is the president of the Kyokushin International Karate Organisation and martial arts veteran of 50 years. Shihan Doug Turnbull instructs at his Marrickville dojo which he opened in 1982 and is recognised as one of Australia most prominent instructors. Many thousands of students have been trained under his tutelage and consequently has made a positive contribution to the local community. Shihan Doug has participated in almost all major Australian Kyokushin tournaments as a judge and/or referee between 1981 and 1995, and in all the national training camps between and including 1983-1993. In 1997, he was a referee at the finals of the 1st IFK World Championships in Moscow, and in 2005 he also refereed at the 3rd IFK World Championships in London and the Junior World Tournament in Greece in 2015. In 1999 and 2000 he was voted the Best and Fairest Official for NAS NSW, and in 2005 he was accredited as a Level 4 referee with the National All Styles (NAS). His competition experience includes first places in kumite and kata at State and National level. Shihan Doug Turnbull has a mission to continue with the Karate Spirit growing KIKO and training Kyokushin Karate to uniting the Spirit of Competition with the Spirit of the Martial Way and demonstrating to the general community the power of positive Martial Art influences in people and society.
